A malformed man named Alone was born in a lighthouse surrounded by the sea and has never set foot on land. His hobby is to look through the dictionary and imagine the things he reads. In Alone, Chabouté evokes overwhelming loneliness through the use of only black lines and a superior artistic ability. Though the world is monochromatic, the artist’s rich imagination touched my heart and made me experience the vivid colors, and even the sounds and smells, of his world. ■
